To My Unborn Child

I Am Preparing for Your Arrival

To my unborn child
I’m preparing for your arrival
The decision has been made
There are a few things to final

Preparing my mind, body, spirit
Filling it with life-affirming nourishment
Finding a worthy suitor comes next
Someone ready to dedicate themselves to us, heaven sent

You’ll have two parents
And endless teachers
The village will be prepared for you
Open arms, warm hearts, truth seekers

I waited for you
Took the perfect amount of time
Admiring, learning, growing
To be a better Uma, mother divine

I was in Mexico when you were conceived
Not physically, but the idea
The moment of permission
Unmasked by fear, trauma, birthed in pure white obeah

One day when you’re older
I’ll share with you the magic of the woman
Who asked me to put my hand on her womb
Little did she know her request and moment would manifest in ceremony a day later in the afternoon

I cried tears of joy when I realized
Placing my hand on my own womb
Next to a partner who wasn’t ready
Craving creation while closing a tomb

Letting him go, little one
Was one of the best decisions I have made
It took some time to clear those cords
Karmic predicaments unfolded and dues paid

Your father is nearby
The buzzing energy surrounds us now
It’s my responsibility to invite him in
It’s his seed we will sow
Your physical conception

Will be ceremonial and intentional
No accidental pregnancy
It’s important you know your existence
Was created with the upmost certainty

The love I already have for you, babe
Has made my eyes tear with joy
While actively avoiding imposing gender roles
I know you’re going to be a boy

My boy
Showing me the purest and truest unconditional love
If you are a girl
You’ll be a gift to the whole world sent from above

Come to me when you’re ready
Love you, unborn child
I promise to teach you to navigate this world
And I’ll never tame your wild

These poems serve two purposes… 1) The clarity they provide me. And the greatest reason I feel compelled to share.. 2) For you to experience the “we.”
