Servitude and Worth: A Penny’s Reflection

You gave me your penny pin
A grand gesture of which I’m profoundly grateful
I didn’t ask for it, never thought for it
The love behind it serious yet playful

Honored to be there with you
Walking side by side on your first official shift
Enamored watching you chat with the people
Your servitude your greatest gift

Although if you never helped anyone
A single day in your life
You’d still be forever worthy
Of happiness and the sexiest wife

Your worth is never tied into what you do
You know that deep down
Yet it feels important to remind
In case the thought ever has you frown

I’ll cherish the penny
Put it in the perfect place
Every time I touch it
Sending an energetic kiss to your face

Is it too soon to miss you?
Too bad.. I do.
Cheers to the next chapter
Oh.. and thank you.

These poems serve two purposes… 1) The clarity they provide me. And the greatest reason I feel compelled to share.. 2) For you to experience the “we.”
