How To Express Pure Joy

A Four Step Poem

Explain to me
How you’d express
What pure joy feels like
When most are caught in distress

Some focus on instant gratification
Like watching you undress
Mental health on a global scale is wavering
How do we all learn to decompress?

To the thoughtful inquiry
I smiled and wrote down a reply
Joy is ever present and available
Here is something tangible to apply

One: having experiences
The lowest of lows
We take the lessons learned
Remember them and grow

From there we move forward
No more affirming old traumatic tales
Retelling from pain or displeasure
Won’t allow healing to prevail

Time for new stories
Let’s hear about the rebirth
How were those lessons applied
Do you know the solidity of your worth?

Two: blow the roof off
Of what was once thought to be true
Indulge in a massively mind expanding experience
Wash over worries with brand new

New neural connections
Subconscious surfacing
Newly embodied reality
Old stories repurposing

Go into it
Eyes open, head first
Breath deeply now
A reenergizing burst

The fresh territory
Uncharted by this conscious mind
Breath to anchor the embodiment
Resistance is natural, be kind

Three: fully allowing
Have the confidence to trust in divinity
The universe is here for you, child
Something greater than the holy trinity

Trust in this existence
Be radically present
Leave inhibitions where they are
Prepare to be effervescent

Four: practice
Practice finding moments of joy
Even the smallest or most fleeting
This lifetime is your toy

Joy is a muscle
Like anything else we do
Practice makes progress
You’re already perfect, boo

Joy is a choice
It’s a moment of recognition
Not present on a silver platter
Won’t arrive from a petition

Joy is earned
Joy is free
Joy is you
Joy is me

What is it to be free
It’s a choice and follow through
Joy is within
Joy loves you

These poems serve two purposes… 1) The clarity they provide me. And the greatest reason I feel compelled to share.. 2) For you to experience the “we.”
